Waldorf stars & math

“Each star needs eight sheets of paper, for the eight points. How many colors do you want?”
“Alright. How many sheets of each color do you need to make your star?”
“Each color.”
“Two of each! Two, four, six, eight!!”

Everyday math into our crafts. Kid number 1 has asked many times to participate in origami, paper folding activities, but usually gets bored in seconds. Mostly because she can’t get the folding perfectly straight, and gets upset.
So it was beautiful to watch her make point after point, folding, sometimes making a mistake, but still moving forward until completing the star.
She did all the work, from choosing, folding, organizing and gluing.
We will also use the star for fraction study, with the help of colors.
